Park District of Oak Park officials plan to identify by the end
of April possible locations for two permanent dog runs.
"We've heard the howls of anger and anguish from dog
owners," Park Board President David Kindler said. That
outcry emerged after Cook County authorities determined that
district informal off-leash weekend hours at Ridgeland
Common and Lindberg Park violated state and local laws,
prompting the parks to halt the practice. As a stop-gap, the
district also is pursuing creation of a temporary fenced dog
run at Ridgeland.
